The Baja California Peninsula, located to the south of San Diego, CA is made up of two Mexican states: Baja California and Baja California Sur. It extends some 775 miles from Mexicali, Baja California, in the north to Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur, in the south, separating the Pacific Ocean from the Gulf of California (or Sea of Cortez).
Because of the mild temperatures, blue water and diverse ecology, Baja is a year round draw for fishermen. There are over 800 identified species of fish the waters and world class fishing for some of the most sought after saltwater trophy fish like billfish (marlin and swordfish) as well dolphin, tuna, roosterfish and wahoo. From north to south, the Baja Peninsula is littered with fishing outfitters and many public launch facilities, with Cabo San Lucas at the southern most tip being the biggest draw.
